| FAQ: | 1. Problem: Receiving "Unable to execute" message.
Solution: The game requires 565K free conventional memory. CGA/EGA version requires 540K. 2. Problem: After chess move is entered for copy protection, screen freaks out, or may reboot. Solution: Run the game using the /KEYB switch. The mouse driver MUST be 100% Microsoft compatible. 3. Problem: Can not connect on a modem game on COM 2. Solution: Start the game by typing CHESS /KEYB /COM2 and hitting the ENTER key. 4. Problem: Music is coming from the PC speaker and not from the sound card. Solution: After the /ADLIB switch is used, the music will still be heard from the PC speaker. Movement and battle sounds will then be heard from the sound card. 5. Problem: After chess move is entered for copy protection, a blank chess board appears. Solution: Check if the CHESS directory has ALLCAMN1, ALLCANM2, and ALLCANM3 files. If not, enter the following commands:
6. Problem: Receive "Bad command or file name" when trying to install. Solution: Installation program is now called INSTALL. To run it, type INSTALL C: and hit the ENTER key. 7. Problem: Computer's rook appears to move diagonally during game, or the computer takes 2 turns. Solution: The computer has calculated that there is no way to move your king out of checkmate. The computer will then make the final 2 moves. When this happens, the rook may appear to move diagonally. |
