Default Install Directory: C:\Program Files\Brainstorm\Chssmts

To Install Game:
Windows v3.1 Installation -

1. Insert the CD into the CD-ROM drive.
2. From the Program Manager (Win v3.1), click on the FILE menu.
3. Click on the RUN command.
4. Type D:\INSTALL to run the INSTALLATION program.

Windows 95 Installation -

1. Insert the CD into the CD-ROM drive.
2. Wait a second for the install program to AUTORUN.

Game Executable: C:\Program Files\Brainstorm\Chssmts\Chssmts.exe

To Start Game:
In Windows v3.1 -

1. Double-click on the CHESS MATES icon within the BRAINSTORM program group on your Windows desktop.

In Windows 95 -

1. The game will autorun each time you insert the CHESS MATES CD disc. If it is already in your CD-ROM drive, you can click START and then select the Chess Mates icon from the BRAINSTORM program group.

1. Problem: Game will not install on Windows XP.
2. Problem: Cannot get first certificate of achievement to print.
3. Problem: Alps Guidepoint will not work.
4. Problem: GPFs, Blank Screen on Bootup, or Random Crashes.
5. Problem: WinG has encountered a problem with your video display driver. Contact the manufacturer of your video card for the current video driver.

Problem: Game will not install on Windows XP.

Solution:
-Go to My Computer, right-click on the cdrom drive, and click 'Explore'.
-Look for a file called 'inst16.exe', and double-click it to install.
-Once the installation has completed, go to My Computer -> C: -> Program Files -> Brainstorm -> Chssmts
-Look for a file called 'chssmts.exe', right-click it, click 'Properties', and click the 'Compatibility' tab.
-Set compatibility mode for Windows 95, 256 colors, 640x480, and press OK.
Try running the game again.

Problem: Cannot get first certificate of achievement to print.

Solution: On some systems, first certificate will not print. This problem will only occur on the first level, and all additional certificates should print without problems.

Problem: Alps Guidepoint will not work.

Solution: There is currently no support for this device in Chessmates. You must have a Microsoft Compatible Mouse.

Problem: GPFs, Blank Screen on Bootup, or Random Crashes.

Solution: Check video palette and screen resolution. (256 Colors/640x480 ideal). Could also be problems with DirectX. Try running DXSETUP.EXE (located on Chessmates CD in DirectX folder) and verifying that all drivers are certified. If any drivers are not certified you will need to contact your hardware manufacturer or Microsoft to obtain fully certified drivers.

Problem: WinG has encountered a problem with your video display driver. Contact the manufacturer of your video card for the current video driver.

Solution: The game is unable to update the WinG drivers in the Windows\system dir, drop to DOS and get into the Windows\system and type attrib -r -a -s -h wing*.*. Go back into windows and reinstall this will remove the attributes that did not allow Chessmates to updated the older WinG drivers.
